Comparison of Epidural Bupivacaine and Magnesium Sulphate Combination
Keywords:
Epidural anesthesiaAbstract
Epidural anesthesia is a commonly used technique for pain relief in surgeries and labor. Bupivacaine is widely used as a local anesthetic, but the addition of adjuvants like magnesium sulfate has been investigated to prolong analgesia and improve patient outcomes. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of epidural bupivacaine alone versus a combination with magnesium sulfate. A randomized controlled trial was conducted on 100 patients undergoing lower limb surgeries under epidural anesthesia. Pain relief duration, hemodynamic stability, and side effects were recorded. The results showed that the addition of magnesium sulfate significantly prolonged analgesia duration and reduced opioid consumption without major side effects. The study concludes that magnesium sulfate is an effective adjuvant to epidural bupivacaine for prolonged pain relief.
